The fashion stylist and Bullet with Butterfly Wings blogger was inspired by her passion for surfing when it pertained to decorating her coastal home. A soft palette of whites and creams, translucent materials and natural textures lend an airy, sun-bleached look. In the dining room, a weathered wood table and shell chandelier give a nod to nature. modern chairs and a silver branch sculpture strike a glamorous note.

Vancouver artist Patricia Larsen uses neutral tones and organic textures to terrific effect.

South of the Tropic of Cancer, Larsen found a home in Baja, Mexico. This simple, 1,300-square-foot one-bedroom home is made of concrete block and plaster. The rustic home blends effortlessly with its sensational surroundings — the Sierra la Laguna mountains, the Pacific ocean in the distance and miles of desert. Throughout, a neutral palette makes sure it’s easy to step furnishings from room to room.

Two substantial Moorish-style mirrors lend a Spanish flavour to this rustic terrific room.

In the 2011 Princess Margaret Showhome, Montauk’s Geoffrey sofa was custom-slipcovered in ivory linen. It serves as a light backdrop for custom-made throw pillows in solid linen edged in a contrasting blanket stitch and a Navajo-inspired Ralph Lauren woven cloth. The Serengeti armchair from Elte and two Safari Camp chairs are a natural mix with the handcrafted cherry coffee table and tree-stump side tables.

Use natural elements and a good dose of creativity to create one-of-a-kind pieces.

A neutral palette radiates serenity and cleanliness. Freelance stylist and creative director Jenn Cranston created a headboard out of a bamboo screen, and special lights by rewiring two pendants and wrapping the cords in raffia. Throughout her cottage, Jenn uses branches for sculptures and displays lawn and leaves from her garden.

The owners of this Lake Simcoe beach house wanted to create a space that reflected its location but still looked modern. In this newly-added mudroom, white walls and furniture are paired with earthy accents like a jute rug, wicker baskets, seashells and tropical greenery.
